Dear Friend of the Jerome Lejeune Foundation,
We were shocked by Mr. Ben Achour’s speech before the United Nations Human Rights Committee. You were, too. So was Charlotte Fien, a young woman with Down syndrome who eloquently spoke directly to Mr. Achour in a moving video:
“I felt you attacked me for being who I am. I am a human being just like you… our only difference is an extra chromosome. If any other heritable traits like skin color were used to eradicate a group of people, the world would cry out. What have we done to make you want us to disappear?” |
Mr. Achour isn’t the only person who believes that eliminating Down syndrome is necessary and justifiable. We reported last month that, in Denmark, all but four pre-born babies diagnosed with Down syndrome were killed in 2016. Other countries are not far behind.
Join our fight for people with Down syndrome – for their right to life and quality of life. We work to bring care, scientific research, and advocacy to a community of adults and children that we love and admire.
As Dr. Jerome Lejeune once said, it is sadly common to believe that to defeat Down syndrome, we must eliminate the person. He called attacking the person with Down syndrome “mad science”. “We must always be on the patient’s side, always.”
|
The Jerome Lejeune Foundation stands against this “mad science”. Our team is hard at work to prohibit abortions from being performed because of prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome.
We fought for babies with Down syndrome in Indiana last year, and we are working on going after two more states.
We joined with likeminded organizations who filed a friend-of-the-court brief with a federal appeals court to support an Indiana law banning abortions based on a child’s genetic profile, race, or sex. We are standing against Planned Parenthood who has stopped this law from going into effect. We will focus on at least two additional states this year.
Will you stand with us?
Your gift today will go directly to the effort to advocate for adults and children with Down syndrome.
